Electrical engineering

Calling all skilled specialists in electronics manufacturing, key account managers, industrial managers, hardware developers, engineers, electronics technicians / electricians, mechanical engineers, technical managers, customer service representatives, software designers and project managers, some 28,400 of your colleagues are already working for around 138 electrical engineering companies based in the Berlin / Brandenburg area.

By electrical engineering, we mean the development and production of installation devices and systems, lighting equipment, electrical drives, power supplies as well as switching systems and components for electronics, microelectronics, consumer electronics and automation. The electronics industry is one of the leading industrial sectors in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region – by the start of the 20th century Berlin was already considered an "electropolis" (city of electricity), a reputation that still persists today.

In Berlin-Brandenburg you will find several large companies, particularly medium-sized industrial enterprises, including many global market leaders. AEMtec, Bogen Electronic, DeltaTech Controls, First Sensor, imc Meßsysteme, MTS Systems, LayTec, InSystems Automation and PCS Power Converter Solutions are just a few examples of the companies you can approach during your job search. This sector is strongly indentified with environmental and energy technologies. For exemple, converters and electrical equipment for wind turbines, solar power plants and industrial applications, as well as optical components, modules and subsystems for telecommunication applications are all developed, produced and marketed in the capital region.

Science plays an important role in electrical engineering. Research is being carried out, for example, at the Leibniz Institute for Innovative Microelectronics, the Institute of Energy and Automation Technology and at the Institute for High Frequency and Semiconductor System Technologies. Berlin is one of four electromobility showcases in Germany. Numerous Berlin-based companies and research institutions are developing and testing commercially viable technologies and applications of the future by focusing on four application-oriented priorities: driving (mobility), storage (smart grid), charging (infrastructure) and networking (nexus).

Salaries are based, as always, on experience and current pay rates at the respective companies. As a technical purchasing administrator, you can earn on average 26,000 to 36,000 euros annually before taxes, as an engineer working in processing technology 48,000–68,000 euros, and as a software/hardware developer for an automated testing environment, from 45,000 to 62,000 euros per year. So get started on your job search now! It'll pay off in the end.
