Energy & Environment

Dear energy consultants; environmental protection technicians; surveyors; specialists for the recycling and waste management industries; cold, heat and noise isolation experts; mechatronics engineers; systems mechanics; and electrical engineers, 56,000 of your colleagues already work in around 6,300 companies in Berlin and Brandenburg in the environmental and energy industries as well as in more than 30 research facilities, universities and colleges.

The capital region Berlin-Brandenburg is a forerunner in the production and integration of renewable energies and a leader in the development of smart grids, storage concepts and innovative solutions for the synchronization of energy needs and energy provision. The region has, for example, the largest practice laboratory in Germany for the energy revolution and urban environmental technologies. This ensures that Berlin-Brandenburg can sustainably contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions as well as to achieving the goal of “Berlin, climate-neutral city 2050.”

The companies in the industry are mostly small and medium-sized businesses that provide power plant products and services, solar thermal systems, produce biofuels, and construct transformers and substations. You could work in the sectors of energy and climate policy; waste management; noise; Berlin’s air; the green economy; conservation and water; environmental technologies; energy consultancy and planning entities; renovation consultancy; and e-mobility. In addition, there are many small engineering offices in Berlin that plan, survey and provide consultation. Have a look at these when you are conducting your job search.

The largest companies in the capital region are Siemens, General Electric, Vattenfall, 50Hertz, GASAG, BAE, Schneider Electric in the energy technology branch, ALBA Group, Berliner Stadtreinigung BSR, Berliner Wasserbetriebe BWB in water and recycling – all potential employers. You can carry out research at, for example, the TU Berlin, the University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Technik) or the Beuth University of Applied Sciences.

Wages will always depend on professional experience and the company in question. An energy technology/industrial engineer earns annually between 43,000 and 51,000 euros before tax, an electrical engineer around 41,000 euros, a mechatronics engineer, electrician or an engineering draftsman from around 30,000 before tax. In technical support, you can earn around 35,000 euros and upwards. Start your job search now! It will be worth it.
