Foundations, associations & politics
Dear planners, project managers, research assistants, PR agents, marketing managers, administrative support personnel, social workers, translators, project consultants, legal consultants, software developers and editors, Berlin is home to multiple foundations, associations and government agencies that offer a wide variety of interesting jobs.
The German Association for Environmental and Nature Conservation, the Association for Sustainability and Environmental Management, the Heinrich Boell Foundation, Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Berlin City Museum Foundation, the German Historical Museum Foundation, the Federation of German Consumer Organizations, the German Cinematheque Foundation, Stiftung Warentest (consumer goods testing institute), the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, the Federation of German Industries and many other special interest organizations could be one of your potential employers.
Most of Germany's political parties are headquarterd in Berlin and almost every party has its own foundation there – including the CDU's Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Linke's the Rosa Luxembourg Foundation, with its 200-person staff. The Allianz Cultural Foundation, for example, which promotes artistic, cultural and educational projects aimed at fostering a spirit of European integration, has its headquarters on Pariser Platz in the heart of Berlin. And Amnesty International has two offices in the city: one in Berlin-Mitte and another in Berlin-Pankow.
Salaries vary widely depending on experience, the size of a particular association or foundation and its respective budget. Salaries are structured hierarchically and range between 23,000 and 71,000 euros gross per year. A head of unit or department manager at a trade association earns on average about 65,000 euros; at a craft association circa 58,000 euros; at an industry association roughly 76,000 euros and at one of the associations for independent professions around 77,000 euros.
